Pamphlet Binding Bonanza / Bookbinding Basics Part 1
No matter how advanced I get as a bookbinder, inside there is always a part of me that would like to be making pamphlets: Single signature, double signature, miniature, extra large, watercolor, multimedia, dot grid, ruled, 3-hole, 5-hole, 101- holes... pamphlet bindings are really underrated. There are really so many ways to have fun with the design of this structure. In this class, I am giving you permission to sit down and just enjoy learning a little about a very fundamental building block in bookbinding--the single signature. It is very powerful. You will fall in love and leave here armed with a stack of handmade books and the know-how to change the world. I mean, seriously, there is nothing stopping you once you have the single-signature binding. From this humble structure have come some of the world's greatest art and literature. But even if you aren't planning on producing and distributing a world-wide zine, you are now able to make a durable book anywhere out of almost anything with just a few simple tools. There is something beautiful about that. For beginners and seasoned book makers alike.
Note: I recommend that you take this class with the Gelatin Printing Class if you can so that you can use your own genius decorative papers as design elements in these books. Either way, everyone will have access to decorative papers from around the world to use in their books. This class is limited to 8
